Warehouse Lighting Upgrades
Warehouse lighting is often installed without a great deal of consideration as to what types of activities are to be performed in the building. Foot candles (units of light intensity) are an important guide to providing adequate illumination.
Below is a good rule of thumb for the lighting requirements for various types of warehouse working environments:
|Electronic parts assembly||(300 LUX)|
|Inspection work||(150 LUX)|
|Visual work at production line||(75 LUX)|
|Packing work||(30 LUX)|
Benefits of Good Warehouse Lighting
Good illumination improves productivity and safety in the work area. If your warehouse facility still has metal halide fixtures or fluorescent T-12 or T-8 fixtures, please Call Us to inquire how you can improve your warehouse lighting and save money on electricity bills by upgrading your fixtures.
Upgrading Warehouse Lighting to LED
The most common type of warehouse lighting uses metal halide high-bay fixtures. These are, however, quickly being replaced by LED fixtures. Upgrading to energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures has the advantage of years of maintenance-free service and dramatically reduced energy consumption. LED lighting fixtures are usually covered under warranty for at least 5 years, depending on the manufacturer. LED fixtures do, however, require a larger initial investment, which in some cases may be offset by rebates offered by the electrical infrastructure provider. These rebates are limited in number and are dependent on the amount of power saved.
Fluorescent Warehouse Lighting Upgrades
A popular solution to warehouse lighting, T-12 and T-8 fluorescent fixtures are quickly being replaced by low consumption T-5 fluorescent fixtures. The T-5 fixtures are hung from the ceiling and have been enthusiastically received by clients. Fluorescent T-5 fixtures are much more energy efficient than the T-12 and the T-8 fixtures. The initial investment, however, is less than that for upgrading to LED but no rebate is offered currently. And while fluorescent lighting technology has improved, maintenance is still required.
